Ethiopian Airlines announced it carried 14.5 million passengers over the past nine months, marking a 13% increase compared to the same period last year.
CEO Mesfin Tasew revealed that the airline generated USD 5.6 billion in revenue during this period, an 8% rise from the previous year. The growth reflects the airline’s continued post-pandemic recovery and expansion strategy.
Over the nine-month span, Ethiopian Airlines added 10 new aircraft to its fleet, including three Airbus A350-1000s, further strengthening its position as Africa’s leading airline. The carrier also expanded its global reach by launching four new international destinations.
Looking ahead, Ato Mesfin announced that Ethiopian Airlines will introduce two additional international routes in June and is set to receive two more Airbus A350-900 aircraft.
The CEO also confirmed that preparations are progressing for the construction of a new international airport in Bishoftu. The project, expected to greatly enhance the country’s aviation capacity, is slated to begin construction in November 2026.
