Ethiopian Airlines Group has signed two major agreements with GE Aerospace (NYSE: GE), selecting advanced GE engines to power its upcoming Boeing fleet and reinforcing its commitment to modern, efficient, and sustainable aviation.
Under the new deal, Ethiopian has chosen GE’s GEnx engines to power 11 additional Boeing 787 Dreamliners, expanding its GEnx-powered fleet from 19 to 30 aircraft. The airline also reaffirmed its earlier order for GE9X engines to power eight Boeing 777-9 jets, with options for six more. Both agreements include long-term service contracts for the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of the engines.
Group CEO Mesfin Tasew said the agreements reflected Ethiopian’s commitment to fleet modernization and sustainability.
GE Aerospace executive Russell Stokes praised the strengthened partnership, highlighting the airline’s role in connecting Africa to the world.
The GE9X, the world’s most powerful commercial engine, is known for its improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions. The GEnx, powering two-thirds of all 787s globally, is GE’s fastest-selling high-thrust engine. Both are certified to run on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), supporting Ethiopian Airlines’ green ambitions.
