Ministry of Transport and Logistics (MoTL) launchs a partnership with Ethiotelecom.
Announced under the theme “Driving Digital Transformation: Modernizing Transport, Empowering Every Journey,” the initiative aims to build a more efficient, accessible, and secure public transport system through digital innovation.
Transport Minister Alemu Sime (PhD) said the partnership builds on seven years of policy development and will focus on key areas such as modernizing cross-border transport, implementing digital systems for traffic penalty management, and launching a digital fuel marketing platform to enhance coordination and promote financial inclusion.
“This is a way to meet people’s transportation needs through easy and secure services,” Alemu said. He also emphasized the role of the project in improving road safety by collecting data on driver behavior to inform preventive measures.
Ethiotelecom CEO Frehiwot Tamiru reaffirmed the telecom provider’s commitment to supporting a “Digital Ethiopia” and described transport as vital to citizens' lives and national development. The collaboration is expected to generate jobs, reduce transport costs, increase financial access, and boost Ethiopia’s global competitiveness.
