Ethiopian Freight Forwarders and Shipping Agents Association (EFFSAA) submitted a bid to host the 2027 International Federation of Freight Agencies (FIATA) World Congress. This global gathering attracts over 1,000 logistics leaders and industry stakeholders.
EFFSAA previously submitted bids for the 2022 and 2025 congresses, but security concerns related to the northern region conflict hampered those efforts. Dawit Woubishet, EFFSAA President, presented Ethiopia's proposal at the recent FIATA meeting in Geneva, competing against the Czech Republic.
Withdrawing bids from Israel and Brazil left Ethiopia in a strong position. Dawit emphasized securing sponsors and ensuring sustained security to win the bid. Government support and Addis Ababa's tourist attractions were also highlighted.
FIATA has only held three congresses in Africa during its 100-year history, making Ethiopia an attractive location given the burgeoning African Continental Free Trade Area. The 2027 host announcement will occur in September 2024 at the Panama City World Congress.
