The Ethio-Djibouti Railway Company (EDR) is chugging full steam ahead in 2024, aiming for a significant revenue increase while expanding its services and solidifying its role in regional development.

This year, EDR is setting its sights on a revenue target of Birr 4.5 billion, a remarkable jump from the Birr 738 million earned in 2018. This translates to a staggering 38.4% annual growth, reflecting the increasing demand for both freight and passenger services.

The company recently completed its transition to full Ethiopian and Djiboutian control. CEO Abdi Zenebe expressed his pride in this achievement, highlighting the positive impact on organizational efficiency.

Challenges such as power and security issues, which previously hampered operations, have largely been resolved, paving the way for a smoother future. Additionally, EDR's workforce of 4,000 individuals has played a vital role in boosting freight transportation, contributing significantly to the improved efficiency of Djibouti's port. Looking ahead, EDR aims to expand the range of services it offers and explore innovative uses for existing train carriages.
