Ethiopian Airlines to Expand Fleet and Destinations, Implement a 10% Cargo Discount

Ethiopian Airlines

Ethiopian Airlines is set to receive eight new passenger aircraft and expand its international destinations by six in the coming months. The airline has placed orders for a total of 26 aircraft from Boeing and Airbus, with eight of them scheduled for delivery in the near future.

The two Boeing planes are expected to arrive within two months, coinciding with the introduction of six new international destinations. These destinations include Madrid, Amsterdam, London Gatwick, Lisbon, Hanoi in Vietnam, and Bangui in Central Africa.

Ethiopian Airlines aims to increase its revenue by 22 percent this year, and to achieve this target, it is not only expanding its fleet and flight routes, but also focusing on infrastructure development and improving customer service.
With a current fleet of 145 aircraft and serving 134 international destinations, Ethiopian Airlines continues to strengthen its position in the aviation industry.

The airline also announced a 10% cargo discount on all intra-African shipments starting this month. The discount is in support of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which aims to create a single market for goods and services in Africa.

According to Mesfin Tasew, the CEO of the airline, the discount is a way for Ethiopian Airlines to play its part in promoting trade within the continent. He added that additional discounts may be introduced based on market conditions and agreements if necessary.

The cargo discount is expected to make it cheaper and easier for businesses to move goods between African countries and enable small and medium enterprises to export their products to other African countries.
