Ethio-Djibouti Standard Gauge Railway S.C. (EDR) revealed that it was expanding its services and increasing its capacity. The company has begun transporting medium and heavy trucks from Djibouti to Addis Ababa. Accordingly, 63 trucks arrived in the Ethiopian capital yesterday.

The CEO of EDR, Abdi Zenebe, explained that this service would be improved and combined with other modes of transportation to enhance the efficiency of the logistics sector as a whole.

It is to be recalled that the railway company launched the transportation of automobiles and small vehicles last year, with the ability to transport 240 automobiles with a single trip. So far the company has transported around 3,000 automobiles.

The railway company was established in 2017 with an initial capital of USD 500 million based on the bilateral investment agreement between Ethiopia and Djibouti which was signed in December 2016. It plays a significant role in promoting economic integration between the two countries.
