BGI Ethiopia Exports Increase by 30%

Beer Export by BGI Ethiopia increased by 30% in the last fiscal year according to the company.

The 30% increase exceeded the 20% average annual growth registered by the company over the last years.

BGI exported 3,152 hectoliters of beer in the 2010-11 fiscal year, as compared to the 2,416 hectoliters it exported in the previous financial year. Exports by BGI in the last fiscal year earned an estimated 300,000 US dollars.

The increase in exports registered by the company is due to the efforts exerted by BGI to aggressively promote its product on the European and American markets and resulted in the popularization of the 330ml standard St. George Beer according to Isayas Hadera, Marketing Manger with BGI Ethiopia.

The company sent promoters to the US and Europe as well as working in collaboration with Ethiopian Embassies in various countries to closely coordinate its attempts to enter markets said Isayas.

BGI has particularly been coordinating its promotional activity with the Ethiopian Mission the European Union as well as Embassies in France and Israel. The company has also been active in markets in Switzerland and the southern parts of the United States.

Promotional events were held in cities with significant Ethiopian communities including, London, New York, and Washington D.C.

The beer exports passed through strenuous quality control to enter the Western markets and the reception so gar has been encouraging to BGI’s aim to expand its customer base noted Isayas.
