Ethiopian specialty coffee has achieved a new record price in the international market, underscoring growing global demand for the country’s premium coffee varieties, according to the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority.

The Authority announced that one kilogram of specialty coffee from Guji was sold for USD 2,376, equivalent to approximately Birr 380,000 at current exchange rates. The sale represents the highest price recorded for Ethiopian coffee.

The record setting coffee was offered to international buyers by Testi Coffee owner Feysel Abdosh under the name “Feysel Abdosh Signature.” The lot was sold through an online specialty coffee auction organized via M-Cultivo, an international coffee auction platform operating in the United Kingdom and the United States.

According to the Authority, the result demonstrates both the exceptional quality of Ethiopian specialty coffee and the strong international demand for premium Guji coffee. It added that the achievement could help further expand the international market for Ethiopia’s high value specialty coffee.

Beyond its commercial significance, the proceeds from the historic auction will reportedly be dedicated entirely to charitable purposes. The funds will be used through the Test Foundation to finance the construction of a modern health center in Denbi Udo Kebele, Shakiso Woreda, in the Guji Zone.

The initiative is also intended to recognize and support coffee growing communities in Guji, whose farmers have played a central role in maintaining the quality and reputation of the area’s coffee.

The record sale adds to Ethiopia’s efforts to strengthen the international profile of its specialty coffee and capture greater value from premium global markets.
