Ethiopian and Chinese businesses have signed 33 trade agreements worth more than USD 340 million as part of efforts to expand bilateral trade and increase Ethiopia's exports to the Chinese market.
The agreements were signed during the Ethio-China Export Trade Forum held in Addis Ababa. The forum was organized by Ethiopia's Ministry of Trade and Regional Cooperation in collaboration with the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia.
The event brought together Ethiopian exporters and Chinese importers to explore trade opportunities and strengthen commercial ties between the two countries.
Minister of Trade and Regional Cooperation Kassahun Gofe said the agreements are expected to support Ethiopia's efforts to increase export earnings and promote Ethiopian products in China.
According to the minister, the 33 agreements cover a range of products, including coffee, oilseeds, cereals, leather products, minerals and textiles.
He said the deals form part of efforts to improve Ethiopian exporters' access to the Chinese market and expand the country's presence in international markets.
The Ministry of Trade and Regional Cooperation said it will continue promoting Ethiopian products abroad with the aim of improving their competitiveness and increasing export revenues.
Chang Hui, Deputy Director General of the Department of Foreign Trade at China's Ministry of Commerce, said China remains committed to strengthening trade and economic cooperation with Ethiopia and expanding market opportunities.
Chinese importers participating in the forum also expressed interest in purchasing Ethiopian products in larger volumes and developing longer term commercial relationships with Ethiopian suppliers.
The agreements come as Ethiopia seeks to diversify its export destinations and increase earnings from agricultural, manufacturing and mineral products.
