Ethiopia has achieved a historic milestone in its export sector, generating more than USD 10.7 billion in export earnings during the 2025/2026 fiscal year, the highest figure ever recorded in the country’s history.
The achievement was announced during the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration’s annual performance review forum held at Taitu Hotel. Opening the event, Trade and Regional Integration Minister Kassahun Gofe said the country exceeded its export target by achieving 114 percent of the planned revenue, setting a new national record.
Coffee continued to be Ethiopia’s largest export commodity, generating USD 3 billion during the 2025/2026 fiscal year. The figure represents an increase from USD 2.65 billion earned in the 2024/2025 fiscal year and accounted for approximately 28 percent of the country’s total export earnings during the year.
Officials attributed the growth in coffee exports to ongoing efforts to increase production and productivity in the sector. Ethiopia currently has an estimated 5.8 million farmers engaged in coffee cultivation, making the crop a critical source of income and foreign exchange earnings for the country.
Beyond export performance, the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration reported substantial progress in trade facilitation and market development. More than 3.4 million online trade registration and licensing services were delivered during the fiscal year, surpassing planned targets. The Ministry also carried out over 2.9 million post-licensing inspections.
To strengthen links between producers and consumers, 804 new weekend market centers were established, bringing the total number nationwide to 2,369. In addition, 31 modern market centers were constructed to expand market infrastructure, while two of ten livestock market centers under development were completed and opened for service.
