Ugandan meat processor Ranchers Finest Ltd has shipped its first consignment of processed beef to Ethiopia.
The shipment, dispatched from the company’s processing facility in Kawempe on July 2, 2026, is destined for Diamond Hotel and Restaurant Group in Ethiopia. It forms part of a supply agreement under which Ranchers Finest will export about 20 tonnes of processed beef and other premium meat products, including sausages, steaks and lamb, every month to the Ethiopian hospitality chain.
The flag-off ceremony was attended by Uganda’s Senior Presidential Advisor on Agribusiness, Hillary Emmanuel Musoke Kisanja, who described the shipment as an important development for Uganda’s livestock industry.
He said the agreement shows Uganda’s growing ability to compete in regional markets by processing livestock products locally instead of exporting live animals. He noted that value addition allows the country to retain more income, create jobs and increase returns for farmers.
Ranchers Finest said it secured the export contract through a competitive procurement process. The company said it was selected because of its compliance with internationally recognised food safety standards, including ISO 22000:2018 and HACCP certification.
The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Collin Muyanja, said the agreement reflects growing confidence in Uganda’s meat industry and could open further export opportunities in Ethiopia and other regional markets.
He added that exporting processed meat helps Uganda earn higher export revenue, improve product traceability, create jobs and retain more value within the livestock sector.
