Ethiopia has earned USD 8.7 billion from export trade during the past 10 months, Minister of Trade and Regional Integration Kassahun Gofe (PhD) said.
The minister made the statement during a graduation ceremony held by the Ethiopian Commodity Exchange Academy for professionals trained in agricultural export business, coffee tasting, and coffee grading.
Kassahun said the country plans to raise export earnings to USD 10 billion by the end of the fiscal year. He noted that building a skilled and knowledgeable workforce is important for developing a modern and effective export trade system.
He also said the graduates are expected to contribute to efforts to improve Ethiopia’s export performance through better technical knowledge and practical skills.
Ethiopian Commodity Exchange CEO Mergia Baisa said work is underway to support export trade through modern trading systems, professional training, and improved quality control. He noted that the academy provides training in grading and quality control to help strengthen Ethiopia’s competitiveness in international markets.
Since 2023, the academy has graduated more than 3,200 trainees in coffee tasting alone. This year, it graduated 168 professionals in agricultural export business and coffee grading.
