Ethiopia earned more than USD 2.48 billion in export revenue during the first quarter of the 2025/26 fiscal year, according to the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration.

At a forum reviewing the ministry’s first-quarter performance, Minister of Trade and Regional Integration Kassahun Gofe (PhD) said the results reflected strong growth across several key sectors.

The Minister reported that export earnings increased by 65 percent compared to the same period in the 2024/25 fiscal year. He added that the 117 percent plan implementation rate achieved during the quarter demonstrated that meeting the government’s USD 9.4 billion annual export target is within reach.

The period also coincided with major milestones in Ethiopia’s international trade relations, including the formal launch of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) implementation process and progress in the country’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The Minister noted that the ministry would continue working closely with relevant institutions and the private sector to strengthen export competitiveness, improve product quality, and diversify markets.
