Ethiopia has earned USD 546 million from the export of more than 80,000 tons of coffee over the past two months, according to the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority.
Director General Dr. Adugna Debela announced that the country exported 470,000 tons of coffee in the 2024/25 fiscal year, generatingUSD 2.26 billion in revenue. He added that Ethiopia aims to increase exports to 600,000 tons in the 2025/26 fiscal year, with an anticipated income of USD 3 billion.
Dr. Adugna attributed the recent growth in export earnings to a system that enables coffee farmers to export their products directly to international markets, allowing them to capture greater value from their produce.
Coffee quality testing, which was previously centralized in Addis Ababa, has now been decentralized and brought closer to farming communities. According to the authority, this shift helps improve quality assurance at the source and boosts farmers’ competitiveness in the global market.
The Authority is also expanding coffee tasting centers across major producing regions to enhance quality control and consistency.
