Ethiopia earned approximately USD 2.6 million from the export of rosemary during the 2022 harvest season. Out of the 49,550 quintals of rosemary produced that season, 49,365 were sent to the central market and 13,799 quintals were exported.
The Deputy Administrator and Head of Agriculture Development Department for the Silte Zone, Mursel Aman, stated that rosemary cultivation was expanding in the zone. It has increased from three to ten woreda administrations and three city administrations. Over the last production season, rosemary was grown on 2,000 hectares of land. This year, it has increased by 1,000 hectares, and efforts are being made to expand the cultivated land to 4,769 hectares.
In addition to rosemary, the zone is focusing on implementing medicinal and aromatic spices, especially lavender.
