Ethiopia: Enterprises Earn USD 26 Million from Export in Nine Months, EED

Ethiopian Enterprises Development (EED) announced that the development of Ethiopian enterprises resulted in the export of products worth over USD 26 million in the last nine months alone. EED also reported that it had successfully provided over USD six million worth of products manufactured by enterprises for export. The institution held a forum yesterday in Jigjiga to discuss the implementation of its plan for the fiscal year.

The income generated from the enterprises came from various sectors such as textiles, clothing, leather, footwear, agro-processing, art, chemical, and mineral products. The enterprises have created job opportunities for 87,740 people, and capital goods worth over Birr 2 billion have been distributed.

Ato Hussain Gaid, the Head of the Somali Region Skills and Job Creation Bureau, highlighted that his office collaborated with financial institutions to strengthen the enterprises in the region. A notable success story is the Sahid Metal Manufacturing Industry, which created jobs for 345 youths after being established at a cost of Birr 120 million in Jigjiga city. Additionally, vocational support is being provided in the region to further enhance the skills of the workforce.
