Ethiopia: Government, Sector Actors Join Ethiopia’s Coffee World

Ethiopia has been chosen to be the “Official Portrait Country” of this year’s Specialty Coffee Association of America’s (SCAA) Annual Event which is going to be held in Seattle, the United States from April 9 to 12, The Daily Monitor reported.

During the press conference held Thursday, April 2, 2015, the government has joined the Ethiopian Coffee Exporters Association, the African Fine Coffee Association and other international aid organizations like the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to praise the opportunity to take part in such a “world class” event that is significant for Ethiopia’s coffee promotion and marketing efforts.

Specialty Coffee Association of America’s (SCAA) annual Coffee event draws more than eight thousand visitors and above 2,700 exhibitors. The event will be a great opportunity for the growth and traceability of Ethiopia’s Coffee, said Assefa Mulugeta, Director General of the newly established section at the Ministry of Trade, Export Promotion Directorate.

Abdella Regassa, Board Chairman of African Fine Coffee Association, said the event will be beneficial for Ethiopian Coffee Producers to be “price makers” than “price takers”.

The delegation led by Kebede Chane will have 40 Ethiopian representatives from coffee producers and exporters, government officials and development representatives.

The event attracts representatives and Coffee industry professionals from 75 countries.
