Ethiopia Earns $475.3 Million from Exports

Ethiopia has earned 475.3 Million US dollars from exports in just the last two months according to the Ministry of Trade. The performance in the last two months has shown a notable improvement over the 300.8 million US dollars earned in the same period in the last financial year said Abdurahman Seid Deputy Director of the Public Relations and Communication Directorate of the ministry.

The revenue earned, however was still lower than the MOT’s projections for the period which was 776.1 million US dollars. The current revenue is only 61.2% of the projected income.

The export sector has witnessed a 25% growth in the last decade claimed Amakele Yimam, Director of the Public Relations Directorate. 

The Ministry has projected 5 billion US dollars in revenue from the export sector in the current fiscal year as part of plans to generate 10 billion birr by the end of the national development agenda.

The ministry is working to enhance revenue by improving market networks and diversifying export products to meet these goals according to Amakele.

It is expected that trade agreements signed with a range of countries and other efforts being taken by the ministry will all contribute to the development of the sector he noted.
