Power Exports to Djibouti Earn $2.1 Million

Power exports to Djibouti earn 2.1 Million US dollars monthly according to the Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation.

The EEPCo is currently exporting 34-40 MW of electricity to Djibouti and is generating 2.1 million US dollars  every month said Meskir Negash, Head of Public Relations for the Corporation.  

EEPCo supplies the electricity between five in the afternoon to one in the morning which is not a peak demand period for domestic customers explained Meskir.

The corporation has also fulfilled the per-requisites to launch electric exports to Sudan in the near future he claimed.

The Ethio-Sudan Transmission Line Project equipped with 230 KV capacity lines is expected to cost EEPCp about 41 million US dollars to lay with an anticipated 100 MW to be delivered to Sudan according to the tentative arrangement in place said Meskir.

The Ethio-Sudan Transmission Line is divided into sections in Ethiopia between Bahir Dar and Gondar, between Gondar and Shehedie and between Shehedie and Mettema with the alst section to be connected with the transmission line in Sudan he added.
