Petram PLC introduced Sales Data Collector (SDC), a new device that helps taxpayers store data without paper and sends end-of-day report (Z-report) automatically to the Ethiopian Revenue and Customs Authority.

The device is developed by BMC International, a Japanese company that helped the Ethiopian government launch its fiscal cash register program.

Over 1,600 km rural road was constructed in Oromia State through the Universal Rural Road Access Program (URRAP) during the first quarter of the current fiscal year, the state roads authority said.

Lion International Bank saw a 47.6 percent rise in yearly profit after tax to 111.29 million birr, partly as a result of growth in income earned from service charges and commissions, Fortune reported.

The bank's earning from service charges and commission fees grew from 45.03 million birr to 61.21 million birr, while gains from foreign exchange dealings only increased by 4.9 percent to 27.86 million birr.

The Ethiopian Trade Enterprise (ETE) is to open its first three cash-and-carry stores in Addis Abeba in the first quarter of 2014, Fortune reported.

The stores which will be named Alle Bejimla, Amharic for “wholesale is available”, will initially commence operations by supplying goods to businesses like kiosks, cafes and hotels, according to Fortune.
