Ethiopia marked World Standards Day 2013 on October 14, 3013, under the theme, “International Standards Ensure Positive change.”

The day was marked for the 17th times in Ethiopia and 44th times globally, Communications and Public Relations Head at the Ethiopian Standards Agency told Walta Information Center.

The Ethiopian Commodity Exchange (ECX), is to switch to online trading in the third quarter of the current fiscal year, capital reported.

Currently, the exchange conducts physical trading from its headquarters located at Mexico Square in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Airline Business Magazine, a publication of Flight Global ranked Ethiopian Cargo 43rd by revenue out of the top 100 global operators, Capital reported.

Ethiopian Cargo was also ranked 49th by traffic by the same magazine.

Addis International Bank joined Premier Switch Solutions, a payment processing operator allowing a joint use of ATMs and point of sale devices by its member banks, Fortune reported.

Addis acquired shares in Premier Switch Solutions worth 4.8 million birr last month and is waiting the launch of its CORE banking system to access the services of Premier Switch Solutions.

Ethiopian Postal Services Enterprise and DHL Ethiopia signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly use delivery networks, Fortune reported.

The MoU was singed at Capital Hotel & Spa on October 9, 2013. Essete Gabriel, country manger of DHL Ethiopia and Gidey Gebretohannes of Ethiopian Postal Services signed the agreement.

The National Bank of Ethiopia issued an amended directive raising the maximum amount of foreign exchange cash overseas travelers can obtain from authorized foreign exchange dealers, Fortune reported.

The amended foreign exchange directive become become effective as of as of October 4, 2013.

Ethiopian Airlines and Boeing [NYSE: BA] today announced an agreement to double wire harness production at Ethiopian Airlines’ Wire Harness Facility.

The Wire Harness Facility, based in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, opened in 2009 and currently supplies seat-to-seat wire harnesses for all Boeing commercial airplane programs. Following today’s announcement Boeing and Ethiopian Airlines will place additional work at the facility, which will double its output by the end of 2014. With support from Boeing, Ethiopian will manufacture more varied and complex wire harnesses, expanding its value as an aerospace supplier.
