Kanoria Chemicals & Industries Establishing a Textile Processing Plant in Ethiopia

Kanoria African Textiles PLC, a subsidiary of India based  Kanoria Chemicals & Industries, is establishing a denim fabric manufacturing factory in Ethiopia, the first of its kind in East Africa.

The company will erect the factory on a 153,000 sq m plot squired on lease in Bishoftu town of Oromia Regional State, 44 km southeast of Addis Ababa. when construction is completed in January 2014, the factory will have a capacity to produce 12 million meters of denim annually. Gonder Malt Factory to Commence Production in June

Tiret, an Ethiopian endowment fund is finalizing its new malt production plant in Gonder, Ethiopia. The factory is scheduled to go operational in June this year.

Gondar Malt Factory has been under construction for the past two years, on four hectares of land. The factory is expected to produce 16,200tns of malt a year, 12,000tns of which will be supplied to Dashen Brewery, one of the sister company in the endowment fund. Add a comment Add a comment


Ethio-Italian JV Commence Manufacturing Medical Disposables

SA-MED Private Limited Company, a joint venture with the Italian Adriamed Medical Devices and Services announced, it has completed testing and trial production of a medical disposables manufacturing plant at Dukem, Ethiopia. The factory manufactures plastic IV fluid containers and giving sets.

Current production of plastic IV fluid containers and giving sets in Ethiopia is around 6 million containers per year while the demand for this medical disposables stand at 20 million, according to Seid Mohammed, partner and vice chairman of SA-MED.

Heineken Commenced Construction of Brewery Plant in Ethiopia

The Netherlands based Heineken Brewery is building its new beer factory in Ethiopia which has a capacity to produce 1.5 million hecto liters of beer per annum after its scheduled completion in 18 months time.

The Company launched the 120 million Euro project in the presence of Lilianne Ploumen, the Dutch Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperative last week in Kilinto, Addis Ababa. The new factory will produce Bedele, Harar and Heineken brands. Add a comment Add a comment


Malaysian Palm Oil Producer to Construct Plant in Ethiopia

Pacific Interlink is to construct an oil refinery plant in Ethiopia at an investment of 401.1 million birr according to sources. The plant is expected to produce 300 thousand tons of oil annually.

The proposal proffered by the Malaysian palm oil manufacturer was approved by the Privatization and Public Enterprises Supervising Agency which was responsible for the initial design and viability study for the proposed project.

The proposed refinery will be the largest to be constructed in the country yet and is expected to help alleviate the current shortage of oil in the country. Add a comment Add a comment


Solar Panel Manufactured in Ethiopia

The Ethiopian Metal and Engineering Corporation and SKY Energy International have manufactured the first solar panel in Ethiopia.

The solar panel was manufactured by the assembly line commissioned in April of last year as a joint venture between the Ethiopian Metal and Engineering Corporation and SKY Energy International.

The turnkey assembly line was fully installed in December and the first efforts to laminate, test and produce solar panel were launched by engineers at this time. Add a comment Add a comment
