Ethiopia: Arerti Industrial Park Boosts Local Production

CEMENT PRODUCTION

Arerti Industrial Park reported supplying ceramic products worth over Birr 2.9 billion to the domestic market during the 2024/25 fiscal year, significantly reducing reliance on imports.

According to Park Manager Ato Tadesse Bosset, the facility hosts ceramic, textile, and chip manufacturing factories. He emphasized that the large-scale production of ceramics has been a key factor in substituting imports, with 3.1 million cubic meters of ceramics produced and sold locally for Birr 2.9 billion.

Overall, the park generated Birr 3.1 billlion in revenue from products manufactured by its three factories. In addition, market linkages for ceramic products enabled the local community to sell various materials worth Birr 589 million to the park.

The industrial park has also played a role in job creation, employing 1,345 people and providing them with regular professional and safety training.

Since beginning operations, Ararti Industrial Park has saved the country USD 57.3 million in foreign exchange through the production of import-substitute goods. Ato Tadesse noted that the park’s continued expansion in manufacturing capacity will further strengthen Ethiopia’s industrial output and reduce import dependency.
