BGI Ethiopia Inaugurates Billion Birr Factory

BGI Ethiopia inaugurated a new billion birr factory in Hawassa, Southern Regional State. The new factory has the capacity to produce 500,000 hectoliters every year.

BGI completed the factory, built on a seven hectare plot of land, in 14 months. The company expects to serve markets in the Southern and Western parts of the country and parts of Eastern Ethiopian.

The new factory is equipped with cutting edge European technology including a new high tech, 25 million US dollar waste management plant on the factory grounds.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Shiferaw Shigute President of the Southern Regional State, as well as community elders.

A concert featuring well known local artists was also a part of the inaugural event.

The current production capacity of BGI Ethiopia is estimated at 2 million hectoliters at the present. The company is committed to increasing its production rate and it share of the emerging markets for beer in Ethiopia.

BGI Ethiopia was established in 1996 and bottles locally well known brands such as St George and Castel beers.

BGI Ethiopia also acquired a 30% share in Raya Brewery, a new company under establishment.
