Ethiopia's Ambassador to Russia, Cham Ugala Uriat, has made an announcement regarding the country's plans to manufacture Russian Lada cars specifically for the African market.
According to Uriat, Avtovaz, the state-owned Russian automaker, has entered into a partnership with an Ethiopian company to establish Lada car production in Ethiopia.
Lada cars manufactured in Ethiopia have the potential to be exported to other African countries, including Sudan, South Sudan, Kenya, and Somalia. Although the exact commencement date for production remains uncertain, it is speculated to be in the near future. Additionally, there are reports indicating the interest of other Russian car manufacturers in investing in Ethiopia's car assembly sector. Two Russian automakers are engaged in discussions with the Ethiopian government to explore this possibility.
