Ethiopian Leather Industry Launches Training Courses

The Ethiopian Leather Industry Development Institute launched a  leather and leather products training course in eight technical and vocational colleges in the current academic year.

The training program was launched in Addis Ababa City Administration and Oromia Regional State according Berhanu Serjebo Director of Corporate Communication with the Ministry of Industry.

The courses are intended to produce a steady supply of skilled professionals for the leader sector to support efforts to modernize the processing techniques within the sector.

There more than sixty five students who are currently enrolled in first and second degree programs in leather sector specialties  offered at the Addis Ababa University and the Indian Central Leather Research Institute explained Berhanu.    

It is expected that a selected group of students will travel to India to attend tertiary level instruction according to the mutual cooperation arrangement between the CLRI and Addis Ababa Institute of Technology. The Indian Central Leather Research Institute has agreed to train 30 professional in 2 degrees and five students working towards their tertiary degree he explained.

The technological cooperation with CLRI is expected to offer significant support to the efforts to utilize national resources in the country he added.

The income earned from the export of leather has shown notable improvement after the nation banned the export of crusted raw skins and hides said Berhanu.
