Metehara Sugar Factory Nets 500 Million Birr

The Metehara Sugar Factory, Ethiopia has netted more than 500 million birr from the sale of an estimated 930 thousand quintals of sugar and 7.6 million liters of ethanol in the last financial year.

The company has invested in developing its technical capacity and human resources towards enhancing its production levels in the last fiscal period noted Bizuneh Assefa, Manger of the plant.

Efforts undertaken by the factory include a range of upgrades including the refurbishment of older machinery he said.

The factory is cultivating a sugar cane plantation on 10 thousand hectares of land which is also part of the effort to increase productivity said Abdulaziz Yussuf, Agriculture Operation Sector Manager for the factory.

Ethanol production at the sugar factory and others has enabled the nation to save the foreign currency spent on the export of the chemical and fuel.

Methera projects that it will generate 1.5 billion birr in revenue in the current fiscal year by increasing its production to 1.3 million quintals of sugar and 10.7 million liters of ethanol.
