Faffa Foods SC, Ethiopia introduced two new flavors of one of its latest products, Saba powdered soy milk at an even organized at the Sheraton Addis last week.
The event organized to promote the new product was attended by representatives from American innovator of Soy products, food ingredients and other nutritional products, Solae. The representatives were able to give a presentation on the various products offered by the company.
Saba Soy milk is packaged in Ethiopia with the powdered milk imported from one of the Solae branches in Kenya according to Zeku Ebro, General Manager of Faffa Foods SC.
Faffa began to package and distribute the powdered milk for the first time in Ethiopia around the end of the last year. Soy milk is a popular substitute for regular cow milk for those who have dietary restrictions for various reasons.Solae has been working with soy to develop a range of products since 2003 according to John Odindo, Business Development Manager for the East African Region with the company.
The soy bean is known to be nutritious and can serve as a healthier substitute essential nutrition values that are normally obtained from meat, poultry and dairy products he said.
The two newly introduced flavors are chocolate and vanilla which primarily target children although adults can also enjoy the flavored soy milk according to Odindo.
The vanilla flavor includes sugar additives but it is possible to redesign the product with lower sugar if there is a market demand for the product by diabetic people he noted.
