Hujian Receives Additional Land Grant in Ethiopia

The international Chinese footwear giant Huajian has been granted additional land for industrial investment outside the Ethiopian Capital, Addis Ababa.

The company has already launched production activity in its industrial plant found in the Chinese Eastern Industry Zone in Oromia Regional State and has been granted the new plot by the city administration of Addis Ababa.

The company has been granted 320 hectares of land from the city according to Birhanu Sirago Head of Public Relations with the Leather Industry Development Institute.

Huajian is expected to begin construction on its new plot as soon as it meets the prerequisite conditions said Birhanu.

The company is currently exporting its products to the Western market from its plant in the Eastern Chinese Industrial Zone. It has a projected production rate of 3000 pairs of shoes daily for export purposes.

The Chinese investor, which is said to have the capacity to produce close to the total finished leather export of the country last year is expected to have a significant contribution to the industrialization aims of the country in regards to enhancing the finished leather sector in Ethiopia.

It is to be remembered that Ethiopia has earned above 112.1 million US dollars from the export of leather and leather products during the previous financial year which was lower than the 206 million US dollar projected for reporting period.

The lower than anticipated performance was due to decreases in leather prices and increases in the prices of raw materials on the international market it was said.
