Assela Malt Factory Secures 95 Million Birr

Assela Malt Factory, Ethiopia is secured 95 million birr in gross from the sale of malt in the previous financial year.

The revenue was earned from the sale of 218 thousand quintals of malt according to Abera Mekonnen, Head of Plan and Information for the factory.

The profit earned in the fiscal year exceeds that earned in the year before by more than 31 million birr he noted. The factory is generating more profit from year to year to coordinated effort on the part of the factory employees said Abera.

Assela is undertaking a five year research project in collaboration with Holeta, Debresina, Kulumsa and Debrebirhan researcg centers with a view of resolving shortages in the supply of beer supply he explained.

Meta, Harrar, Bedele and BGI Ethiopia breweries have all contributed to the research which expects to help develop four productive varieties of barely which are under trial noted Abera.

The factory is also undertaking third round expansion project including the installation of modern systems of production at a cost of 257 million birr he added.

The factory could potentially produce 55% of the malt demand in the country according to Abera.

Assela malt factory currently employs more than 245 workers and farmers in the area reported selling 30 thousand birr worth of barely on average every year to the factory.
