Ethiopian Manufacturer of Plumbing Fittings Launches Products

Salasar Compounds plc, Indian owned manufacturer of plumbing fittings is to launch products. The company will be manufacturing cover faucets for bathrooms and kitchens under the Abay brand.

The plumbing fittings will be manufactured in three styles all with anti-rust qualities for use in all types of bathroom and kitchen faucets. The three styles have been labeled Classic, Diamond and Eco.

Salasar expects to have 20 products on the market within six months according to the company.

The manufacture of such products domestically is a symbol of the company’s commitment to the transfer of technology said Tadesse Haile, State Minister for Industry at the event marking the launch.

The launch marks a significant achievement that will save foreign currency on imports, provide jobs for locals and to offer a product with value added to it in line with national industrialization aims he noted.

The plumbing fitting are made solely from brass and copper and are thus heavier then imported alternatives and is 10 to 15 percent more expensive but the products are more durable, reliable and come with a seven year guarantee to the end user explained Rajeev Kumar, Country Manager for Salasar.

Initial market response to the product have been encouraging with the company currently producing 2000 tap fittings and 3000 pieces of mixer bath fittings daily according to Nandki Shore Maniyar, Owner of the manufacturer.

Salasar currently employs 70 people working one shift a day. The company plans to increase its workforce to 200 with three shifts working 24 hours within five months.
