Cartridge King, Ethiopia is to expand its assembly and manufacturing operations to include ink and ribbon cartridges in the coming months.
The company wishes to a set a new standard with a state of the art facility to assemble new cartridges or to re-manufacture ‘virgin cartridges’ un-tampered by the ‘drill and fill’ operations popular in Ethiopia said Jazir Teja, Managing Director of the company.
Cartridge King has the capacity and the machinery to produce 15,000 toners, 2,000 ribbon cartridges and 5,000 ink cartridges every month he said. The company aims to establish a reputation as reliable brand with the eventual aim of expanding to the regional market.
The company plans to increase its production capacity to double production as demand is much larger than the current production. Cartridge King has the space for expansion on the 800 m2 factory it has in Addis Ababa. The company delivers its products on electric motorcycles to most locations in the city at lower costs for transportation as well as being the ‘green’ approach said Jazir.The company has struggled with import taxes on raw materials that have caused it to incur higher costs than expected and hence making the locally assembled products less competitive than imports he noted. The company has been discouraged from its plan to invest because of this said Jazir.
Price is a significant factor but it should not be the only factor to exclusion of quality he concluded.
