Saygin Dima Textile to Begin Operations in Ethiopia

The Saygin Textile Dima Textile factory is to begin operations in Ethiopia by the end of this month.

The factory is expected to produce yarn and fabric for both the local and export markets including acrylic, cotton, linen, wool and textile fibers according to Turan Ahmet Turan General Manager of Saygin Dima.

The factory expects to enhance production by focusing on weaving and products such as sweaters, socks and linens.

Saygin primarily expects to export to Europe and the United States taking advantage of the Africa Growth Opportunity Act which supports African nation build markets.

The company is in the process of training employees at this time he said. The factory currently has 400 employees but the number will grow to 1000 as soon as the training program is completed.

Effort is being exerted to establish a line of credit for local garment factories to buy Saygin Dima products with the Ethiopian Textiles and Garments Association acting as a guarantor to support the textile sector according to Yidnekachew Taye, Vice President of the association.

It is expected that the import of cheap textiles will decrease by as much as 80% as local textile products become cheaper predicted Yidnekachew. This will also mean that textile companies will save an estimated 90-100 million on tax associated with the import of textile input he noted.

Saygin Dima is a joint collaboration between the Turkish Saygin Group and the Ethiopian government.
