Holland Car, Ethiopia Delivers 48 Vehicles

Holland Car plc, Ethiopia delivered 48 pre-ordered automobiles to its clients last week. The car assembly company has been in constant legal wrangling with customers for delivery delays.

The 48 new cars delivered by the company to its clients are powered by a Variable Valve Timing engine which controls the opening and closing time of the intake values as the engine works under different conditions enhancing the power performance of the vehicle as well as lowering its fuel consumption said Engineer Haileleul Tadesse, General Manager of the Assembly Plant.

The new engine is made from aluminum, reducing weight by 29%, fuel consumption by 6% and improving engine power by an estimated 10% according to Haileleul.

Holland is preparing to transition from semi-knockdown assemblage, to complete knock down which will mean that all parts, including the internal combustion engine and the transmission will be imported in pieces for welding, assembly and painting at the plant here in Ethiopia.

It is to be remembered that some clients of Holland car sued the company for breach of contract after it failed to meet delivery dates in the past year. The company argued that it cannot be held accountable for delays arising from complications associated with the foreign currency devaluation.

Holland Car established in 2005, is a partnership between Engineer Tadesse Tessema and Dutch company Trento Engineering to assemble vehicles for the local and export markets.
