Safaricom Ethiopia has signed a Joint Venture Agreement with the National ID Program and Africom Technologies PLC to support the implementation of the National Fayda Digital ID Registration Project.

The agreement covers Lots 3 and 4 of the project and marks another step in Ethiopia’s digital transformation efforts.

Through the partnership, Safaricom Ethiopia will support citizen registration across Afar, Amhara, Tigray, Sidama, South West Ethiopia, Central Ethiopia and South Ethiopia regions, helping expand access to the national digital identity system.

Safaricom Ethiopia CEO Wim Vanhelleputte said the initiative is expected to accelerate digital inclusion, enable more citizens to access public and private services, and strengthen the foundation for a modern digital economy.

The project is also expected to create employment opportunities for thousands of Ethiopians during the registration process.

National ID Program Executive Director Yodahe Zemichael said the Fayda Digital ID program plays an important role in promoting financial inclusion, improving service delivery, strengthening governance and creating new opportunities for economic growth.
