Ethio telecom has officially launched teleStream, a new internet-based streaming platform aimed at reshaping Ethiopia’s digital and media landscape. The platform was unveiled at the Science Museum in Addis Ababa as part of the company’s long-term corporate roadmap, “Next Horizon Digital and Beyond 2028.”
TeleStream is designed as a comprehensive national digital content platform serving multiple sectors beyond entertainment. It is structured to support education, healthcare, tourism, cultural heritage institutions, and both governmental and non-governmental organizations by enabling them to digitize, distribute, and monetize their services and content at scale.
The platform functions as an integrated digital ecosystem for content producers, media houses, and creative professionals. It provides centralized infrastructure that allows locally produced content to reach audiences nationwide and potentially beyond, while reducing reliance on foreign satellite services.
TeleStream offers more than 60 live television channels and over 350 video-on-demand titles. The service is powered by Ethio telecom’s fiber and telecloud infrastructure and operates through fiber, 4G, and 5G networks, delivering high-definition streaming without satellite dishes. Key features include stable broadband connectivity, parental controls, and educational programming.
In parallel with the launch, Ethio telecom announced major upgrades to its fixed broadband infrastructure, replacing legacy copper networks with fiber systems and introducing a Fiber to the Room service. An introductory bundled discount with fixed broadband packages has also been introduced to encourage adoption.
