Ethiopia: Ethio Telecom Reports Birr 162 Billion Revenue in 2024/25 Fiscal Year

Ethio Telecom announced that it earned Birr 162 billion in revenue during the 2024/25 Ethiopian fiscal year, marking a significant milestone in its ongoing digital transformation efforts.

CEO Frehiwot Tamiru released the company's annual performance report along with a summary of its three-year growth strategy to the media. She stated that the revenue was generated from various sources, including voice services, internet, value-added services (VAS), infrastructure sharing, telecom equipment sales, and other streams.

The CEO noted that Ethio Telecom had made remarkable progress since the launch of its three-year growth strategy, aimed at expanding telecom and digital services nationwide. “We have achieved beyond-telecom results through digitalization and strategic investments,” she said.

Among the highlights of the report, Frehiwot emphasized the significant expansion and quality improvement of telecom services. She said 26 cities have gained access to the 5G network, while 936 cities are now connected with 4G services. The expansion has enabled wider access to high-speed internet across various segments of society.

In addition, 1,683 new mobile sites were built during the fiscal year, bringing the total number of operational mobile sites nationwide to over 10,000.

Frehiwot underlined that the company’s efforts are aligned with the national vision of Digital Ethiopia and concluded by affirming that substantial achievements were recorded in the past year, both in terms of infrastructure development and digital service provision.
