Addis Ababa City Administration Sport Commission is undertaking constructions of a gymnasium and athletics village with an estimated cost of 70 million Birr in Jan Meda and the Ferensai Legasion, Addis Ababa. Construction of an Olympic standard swimming pool is already underway in Addis Ketema Sub-City.

The construction of the sports facility, worth 30 million birr, to be constructed in Janmeda has put in consideration of the venue used of the Timket celebration by the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, said Daniel Darge, Deputy Commissioner and Head of Sport Promotion and Development at the Commission.

Construction of Ras Hailu Sport Education & Training Centre was begin by  Kasma Engineering PLC. in July 2010. Bet Architects is the designer of the Ras Hailu Swimming Pool under construction on a plot of land on Ambo Road. The construction supervision of the project is also undertaken by Bet Architects. The construction, scheduled to be completed within eight months time is being carried out by the Defense Engineering Corporation.

Ras Hailu Sport Education & Training Center is expected to be opened to the public in two months time.

The City's Sports Commission supervises the Abebe Bikila Stadium, the Jan Meda Sports Centre and the Ras Hailu Swimming Pool.
