The Ministry of Water and Energy has signed a contract worth more than Birr 933.6 million with Bigeta Business PLC for the drilling and construction of water wells in Angacha Woreda, Kembata Zone, Central Ethiopia Regional State.

The agreement was signed by State Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation Ambassador Asfaw Dingamo on behalf of the ministry and representatives of Bigeta Business PLC.

The project will be fully financed by the federal government and is expected to be completed within 18 months.

According to the ministry, the project includes civil works as well as the procurement, supply and installation of water pipes, fittings, valves and electro-mechanical equipment.

The work will be implemented under the Climate-Resilient Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, or CR-WASH, program, which is intended to expand and improve water supply infrastructure in the area.

The project is expected to increase access to safe drinking water for communities in Angacha Woreda and support improvements in local water supply services.

During the signing ceremony, Asfaw called on the contractor to meet the required quality standards and complete the project within the agreed period. He also stressed the need for accountability and proper implementation of the works.

The Ministry of Water and Energy said it will monitor the implementation of the project to ensure that the contractor complies with the terms of the agreement and applicable quality requirements.

Bigeta Business PLC, for its part, said it has experience implementing water infrastructure projects and committed to completing the Angacha project within the contractual timeframe and in accordance with the required standards.
