The Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration has announced a new increase in retail fuel prices effective from May 08, 2025. E.C.
This follows an earlier adjustment on March 23, 2025, and reflects continued efforts by Ethiopian authorities to align domestic fuel pricing with global market trends and manage the fiscal strain of subsidies.
The highest increase was observed in gasoline prices, which rose by 8.76% in just over a month. White diesel and kerosene followed closely with 7.93% hikes. Conversely, light black diesel, heavy black diesel, and jet fuel experienced price reductions, indicating partial responsiveness to global market fluctuations and internal pricing reforms.
This two-month consecutive adjustment reflects Ethiopia's ongoing transition toward market-based pricing for petroleum products. While products like light and heavy black diesel are already fully liberalized, gasoline, white diesel, and kerosene remain under partial subsidy, gradually being phased out under the government's broader energy reform agenda.
