Ethiopian Petroleum and Energy Authority announced that all gas stations in Ethiopia would be required to place their orders online starting from October 24, 2023.
The authority says the new system is part of an effort to save fuel and improve transparency in the fuel supply chain. The system has already been implemented in Addis Ababa and Sheger cities, and it will now be rolled out to the rest of the country.
Gas stations that are located in areas with security problems will be exempt from the new system for the time being. According to the authority, the new system will help to reduce costs and prevent illegal practices. Moreover, the technology is said to enable end-to-end control of fuel distribution and use.
The authority stated that it was working in coordination with Ethiotelecom to fully implement the system and avoid system interruption.
