Ethiopia Earns 1.2 Billion Birr from Mining Investments

Ethiopia has earned more than 1.2 billion birr in revenue from investment projects in mining exploration and production licensed in the last nine months said the Ministry of Mines.

The investment projects requested licensing in the previous budget year according to Bacha Fuji, Director of Public Relations with the ministry.

An estimated 51 investors are engaged in exploration while others are engaged in production he said.

The performance registered by the sector and the potential exhibited by the exploration projects ensures that the nation will achieve the targets set in the Growth and Transformation Plan.

In related news an estimated 3400 mine sample have been sent abroad for investigation during the reporting period it was learned.

It is to be remembered that the Ministry of Mines implemented a modern and uniform mining license registration system. The ministry has suspended licensing new investors since November due to a limited institutional capacity noted Bacha.  

The revenue generated from investment in the mining sector has reached a total of 14 billion birr nationally he claimed.
