Ethiopia: Lemi Cement Factory to be Completed in March 2024

CEMENT PRODUCTION

East African Holding Group announced that the Lemi National Cement Factory, with a daily clinker cement production capacity of 10,000 tons, will be completed in March.

The clinker unit, essential for cement production, and the assembly of the pipe transferring mixed raw materials to the next process have been completed after 11 months of construction in the Amhara Region.

Lemi cement project is located in Amhara Regional State, North Shewa Zone, Ensaro Woreda, 130 km north of Addis Ababa. It is expected to produce five million tons of cement annually in the first phase and aims to alleviate a 50 percent cement shortage in the country. The project is also viewed as a vital contributor to local economic reforms and engages in other industrial sectors. Upon full operation, it is expected to create employment opportunities for around 10,000 citizens.

The factory, a joint investment by Ethiopian and Chinese investors, is anticipated to become the largest cement factory in Africa upon operation. The ceremony marking the progress was attended by various dignitaries, including the Chairman of East Africa Holding and National Cement Factory and representatives from the construction company Sinoma International Engineering.
