MoT signs Agreement with Local Contractors for Industrial Park Projects

The Ethiopian Ministry of Industry signed with 13 local contractors for construction projects at Bole Lemi Industrial Park. The agreements signed are part of the 1.2 billion birr civil works project at the park.

The projects which include the construction of five industrial sheds, four office blocks are intended to be completed within three months from the day the agreement was signed.

The contractors were selected by the MoI on the basis of their performance on other government projects and not through the usual bidding process because of the need to finalize the project within a short period of time said Tadesse Haile, Minister of State for Industry.

The first phase of the project is budgeted to cost 633 million birr with seven grade one contractors and six more ranging from grades 3 to six taking part.

The industrial park is designed to host more than 30 domestic and foreign industries when it becomes operational according to Tadesse.

It is expected that garment and other manufacturing activities will be part of the industrial efforts at the park with South Korean investors already expressing interest in acquiring space at the park he explained.

Domestic manufacturers engaged in export oriented business are also invited to be a part of the industrial park said Tadesse.

In related news the Chinese contractor CGCOC was awarded the contract for the sanitation project of the part in a separate deal.
