The contribution of the construction sector to the economy has been growing due to the proper attention given by the government said Hailemeskel Tefera, Minister for Urban Development and Construction.

The sector has grown by 25% in the last years as compared to growth in the year previous to that he said.

Construction is an area which is able to create employment opportunities for thousands of citizens in various projects including that of dam construction for hydropower electric generation, road system construction, Sugar and other factories, irrigation and health centers and universities explained Hailemeskel.

National cement production has increased to 10 million quintals every year from just 2.5 million just three years back due to the boom in the sector he said. There are several research centers being developed across the country in a bid to support the growth of the sector added Hailemeskel who noted that only 2, 875 contractors were engaged in various construction projects in the last financial year.
