Roads Authority Awards Road Projects

The Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Roads Authority awarded three more projects to contractors. The contractors selected for the road construction project are the Chinese Road and Bridge Corporation, Gebrehiwot Ekubemariam Construction and Satcon Construction.

The projects are estimated to be worth a total of 847 million birr.

The tender issued by the authority in June had attracted 17 bidders from which pool the three companies were selected.

CRBC was awarded the third project which is the 5.2 kilometer long and 30 meters wide road between Lideta Tsebel to Tinbaho Monopole through Bulgaria Mazorya to Lancia and Israel Gragage ending up at the Gazebo, Meskel flower. This project is worth 389 million birr and is to be completed in 2 years.

Gebrehiwot Ekubemariam Construction was awarded the 2.2 kilometer road at the Akaki Kality Truck terminal for a bid of 83.7 million birr. The project is expected to be completed in a year and a half.

The project that was awarded to Satcon Construction is the 5.7 Kilometer long and 20 meter wide road from Yerer Goro to Wondyirad School, Kotebe through CMC and the St. Michael Church area. Satcon beat out CRBC and Varnero construction for the project with a bid of 375 million birr. It is expected to complete the project in 2 years.

All the projects will be completed in 2 years as part of the plans to increase the road coverage of the city by 20% by 2020 according to Engineer Fekade Haile, General Manager of the AACRA.

The projects are being funded by the authority’s budget for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 budget allocations he added.
