Magercon, to Construct United Insurance, Ethiopia Mall

United Insurance, Ethiopia has awarded Magercon Construction the contract to for the first phase of construction on the 42 million birr mall in Addis Ababa.

The insurance company has been negotiating over the 20,000m2 plot of land for the building requiring a revised site plan after claiming to have lost an estimated 200m2 due to road constructions.

United was awarded its revised plant by the City Administration with the understanding that it should commence construction in six months.

It is to be remembered that the management of United Insurance decided to divide the construction project into finishing and structural elements after failing to receive a bid proportional to the budget it has for the construction. The company thus selected seven companies to take part in a limited tender for the structural part of the building selecting Magercon and Zamra for negotiations.

Magerocon was selected in line with plans to be cost effective said Eyessuswork Zafu, advisor to the president of United.

The building designed by Geretta Consults plc is expected to be a four storey mall and recreation center. The plot of land earmarked for the construction is currently used by the insurer for damaged cars and goods and will sport have a restaurant, a twelve-lane bowling center on the roof, a parking lot, a shopping center and a kids center.
