Ethio Telecom's digital payment platform, Telebirr, has facilitated a staggering Birr 1.9 trillion in transactions, according to Ethio Telecom's Executive Officer Firehiwot Tamiru.

Frehiwot emphasized Telebirr's significant contribution to financial inclusion and Ethiopia's digital transformation journey. With nearly 43 million subscribers, Telebirr has become a daily financial tool, averaging Birr 5 billion in transactions and enabling access to loans for over 4.1 million customers, totaling Birr 9.5 billion.

Telebirr's achievements haven't gone unnoticed on the global stage. Ethio Telecom was invited to share its experiences with the platform at the World Telecom Congress in Barcelona. The company's ambitious vision for Telebirr is to capture 50% of the country's GDP transactions, further solidifying its commitment to a digital Ethiopia. Maintaining service quality remains a top priority for Ethio Telecom as they strive to achieve this goal.

Launched with the National Bank of Ethiopia's approval, Telebirr bridges the digital divide and caters to the financially underserved population within Ethiopia.
