The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) reported Birr 38.71 billion in net profit for the 2025/26 financial year, supported by strong growth in both interest and non-interest income.

According to the bank’s audited financial statements, non-interest income rose to Birr 60.51 billion from Birr 34.09 billion in the previous fiscal year, reflecting increased contributions from fee-based and other service activities.

Gross interest income also climbed to Birr 132.05 billion, providing further support to the bank’s overall earnings.

The strong revenue performance was partly offset by significant foreign currency pressures. CBE recorded a net foreign currency loss or adjustment of Birr 36.70 billion during the year.

Non-interest operating expenses also increased sharply to Birr 113.70 billion from Birr 56.77 billion in the previous reporting period.

The bank’s profitability was further supported by a Birr 37.03 billion impairment reversal.

CBE’s balance sheet has now surpassed Birr 2 trillion, reflecting the continued expansion of the state-owned lender.

The financial statements were audited by the Audit Service Corporation, which issued an unmodified opinion under International Financial Reporting Standards.

The report was approved by Board Chairperson Ahmed Shide and President Abie Sano.
