The Ministry of Revenues collected Birr 1.518 trillion during the 2025/26 fiscal year, exceeding the government’s revised annual revenue target.

The figure was announced during the annual performance review of the Ministry of Revenues and the Ethiopian Customs Commission.

Minister of Revenues Aynalem Nigusse said several measures were implemented during the fiscal year to strengthen the country’s revenue collection system and increase government income.

The measures included expanding the tax base, improving tax administration and tax policies, and introducing technology-based services to enhance efficiency and taxpayer compliance.

The government initially planned to collect Birr 1.28 trillion during the 2025/26 fiscal year. However, following a review of the six-month performance, the target was revised upward to Birr 1.5 trillion.

According to the minister, the Ministry collected Birr 1.518 trillion, achieving 101.24 percent of the revised annual target.

The revenue was generated from domestic taxes, foreign trade taxes, customs duties and other tax sources.

The Ministry’s revenue collection during the 2025/26 fiscal year increased by 68.69 percent compared with the previous fiscal year.
